Possible Skies and The Weight of Realpolitik
Possible Skies and The Weight of Realpolitik is a painting installation of alternating glass mirror panels and oil paintings on aluminum panels. Each painting derives from images of skies collected from news outlets such as CNN, PBS, and NPR, documenting ongoing wars, conflicts, nuclear tests, spacecraft launches, natural disasters, and environmental dangers during the 2020 - 2024 year period. As the viewer stands in front of the artwork their reflection is caught by the mirrors. With the viewers’ reflection juxtaposed within images of conflict, the viewer is challenged to consider and question what our individual responsibility, influence, and impact is in a world where destruction and conflict occurs and how global and environmental issues effect our perceptions of individual and global realities.
